Maryland Man Guilty of Murder, Child Abuse in Death of Infant Son

A jury convicted a Maryland man in the 2014 death of his 7-week-old son, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office said.

Amir Iman-Kouadio's mother told police when she put the baby down to sleep about 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. Feb. 3, 2014, he was fine. The child's father, 27-year-old Adou Louis Kouadio, told police he gave the infant a bottle and changed his diaper about midnight.

Kouadio said he heard the child crying about 2 a.m., changed his diaper and tried to give him a bottle, according to charging documents. He told police he went downstairs to try to sleep in a different room but checked on Amir 20 minutes later and saw blood coming from his nose. At that point, he woke up Amir's mother, who called 911.

Amir was first taken to Holy Cross Hospital, then transferred to Children's National Medical Center, according to Children's National.

Amir had injuries including hemorrhages suggesting something had happened to him overnight, but he also had healing rib fractures about two-to-four weeks old, according to the hospital.

A jury found Kouadio guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death and second-degree child abuse. He faces up to 35 years at sentencing in February.
