Maryland-Based Soldier, 22, Dies in Afghanistan

Spc. Hilda I. Clayton died Tuesday in a non-combat-related incident in Afghanistan

A 22-year-old soldier based at Fort Meade, Md., has died after a non-combat-related incident in Afghanistan.

Spc. Hilda I. Clayton of Augusta, Ga., died Tuesday in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, after the incident in Qaraghahi, Afghanistan.

Details were not immediately available, but the incident is under investigation.

Clayton, who was married, was assigned to the 55th Signal Company (Combat Camera), 21st Signal Brigade, Fort Meade. She had been assigned to the Army post since July 2012.

Trained at the Defense Information School, also located at Fort Meade, Clayton served as a combat documentation specialist, documenting what happens on the battlefield and in combat operations for the Department of Defense.
