Officers initially responded to a home in the 1200 block of Howison Place SW -- just a few blocks from Nationals Park -- around 4 a.m. for a welfare check.

Inside the home, officers found the body of Mary Anne Thomas. According to court documents, an uninjured child was found on the home's second floor.

News4's Shomari Stone spoke with neighbors Friday, who said they're terrified after the shooting. One said, "This is Southwest and people aren't going to snitch."
