Runners From Kansas, Virginia Win Marine Corps Marathon

A runner from Kansas and a runner from Virginia won their respective divisions of the 2016 Marine Corps Marathon, according to unofficial results.

Samuel Kosgei, 32, from Junction City, Kansas, won the marathon in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 52 seconds to lead all men in the race. Kosgei, an Army specialist, previously won the 2014 MCM.

Desta Beriso Morkama, 31, from Arlington, Virginia, finished about 21 seconds behind Kosgei. Kenneth Foster, 30, from Monument, Colorado, finished third.

Perry Shoemaker, 45, from Vienna, Virginia, won the women's division with an unofficial time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, 47 seconds.

Meghan Curran, 30, from Denver, Colorado, finished second. Nicole Irving, 25, from Arlington, Virginia, finished third.
