Man Wanted for Cashing Counterfeit Checks

Police searching for a man who cashed a fake check in Alexandria, netting $1,500

Police are looking for a man who cashed a fake check in Alexandria.

They say he created a fake check by copying one that came from a real antique store, and made it out to a fake name. He then cashed it at the United Bank, using a fake Maryland driver's license, authorities said.

In surveillance images, he's portrayed as relaxed, even drinking a cup of coffee in the bank.

He netted $1,500 with just one check, and then tried it again in Arlington about an hour later.

The teller detected something strange, and didn't cash it. He left the bank quickly.

Authorities are wondering who he is, and whether he's tried this before. Anyone with information should contact Alexandria Police.
