Man Accused of Stabbing Girlfriend, Sexually Assaulting Girl

UPDATE: The suspect was arrested in D.C. on March 23 for shooting at police officers, police said.

A Prince George's County man is wanted for several violent crimes, including the attempted murder of his girlfriend and the attempted sexual assault of a young girl.

Police say Richard Butler III, 34, tried to sexually assault a young girl he knew at a Hyattsville apartment on March 4. According to police, Butler later threw an incendiary device through the window of the victim's apartment, sparking a fire. No one was injured. 

Three days later, Butler confronted his girlfriend outside a home in Upper Marlboro. Butler allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before running away. 

The victim was seriously injured, but she is expected to be OK. 

Butler has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree sex offense and arson.
