Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering His 13-Year-Old Daughter

A Washington man pleaded guilty Wednesday to murdering his 13-year-old daughter and shooting his former girlfriend and a 10-year-old boy.

Robert Carter, 41, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty to first-degree murder while armed and other charges for the Oct. 29, 2010 murder.

Prosecutors said Carter, who was not living with his girlfriend, entered her home in the 500 block of Madison Street NW. No one was home, and Carter left to buy a Halloween mask and a pair of work gloves.

Carter returned to the home and took his daughter, Angel Morse, to the basement, where he shot the teenager in the head. The Halloween mask was found on the floor next to the girl; and the gloves were found elsewhere in the house, with her blood on them.

When other family members - including a 6-year-old, a 10-year-old and a 16-year-old - returned, Carter held them at gunpoint. When Carter pointed the gun at his former girlfriend, the 10-year-old boy lunged at Carter, and Carter shot both the boy and his former girlfriend; both were wounded.

Carter fled the house in a stolen car, then carjacked a MetroAccess car with an 84-year-old passenger inside. Police eventually captured Carter after he crashed the MetroAccess car in Capitol Heights.

Carter faces a potential sentence of up to 60 years in prison on the murder charge, with a mandatory minimum of 30 years. He also faces up to 30 years in prison on each of the counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
