Fairfax County police are investigating a hit and run crash that happened in Hybla Valley, Va.

At about 2 a.m., police found a 45-year-old man lying on the pavement at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Lockheed Boulevard, authorities said. They believe the pedestrian was crossing Richmond Highway going from east to west when a vehicle believed to be a newer SUV struck him. The SUV stopped for a moment before taking off, according to a Fairfax County press release.

The victim, who is from Alexandria, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police are searching for a red, Jeep Grand Cherokee or a similar SUV with damage to the right front side.
