A man was hospitalized after being attacked early Friday morning in northeast Washington, according to officials.

The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of New York Avenue NE.

The victim told police he was hit in the head with something sharp.

He was able to get help by flagging down a passing U.S. Capitol Police officer, who saw that he was bleeding from the left side of his head.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. There was no immediate word on a motive or the victim's condition.
