Man Assaulted, Stabbed After Getting Into Car He Thought Was Uber or Taxi

A man was assaulted and stabbed after getting into what he thought was an Uber or taxi in Bethesda, Maryland.

The 23-year-old man got into a silver SUV in the Woodmont Triangle area of downtown Bethesda about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, believing it was a cab or Uber vehicle, Montgomery County police said. The two men inside the SUV had stopped and offered him a ride.

The driver took the man to the location he requested several miles away in the 8300 block of Thoreau Drive, police said.

After they dropped him off at a home on Thoreau Drive, the two men got out of the SUV and punched, kicked and stabbed him multiple times, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

On Wednesday, police asked that any residents on Thoreau Drive who have home surveillance review their video. Police said anyone who saw any suspicious activity or a small, silver SUV contact them at (240) 773-6710. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1 (866) 411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
