Police seized 2,710 illegal fireworks yesterday in two separate busts.

On Sunday, officers were patrolling for illegal use of fireworks when they spotted a man igniting illegal fireworks in the 800 block of 48th Street, NE, officials said. Officers followed him to a medium sized truck, where they seized 862 illegal fireworks from the vehicle. The man was cited for possession and use of illegal fireworks.

Later officers responded to the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE, and located a U-Haul van carrying 1,848 illegal fireworks, officials said.

Together, the cache of fireworks has a street value of approximately $10,000, police said.
