Intruder Sexually Assaults Woman in Mount Pleasant Home

Man described as stocky, Hispanic man wearing red sweatshirt and jacket

A man broke into a woman's home in Northwest D.C. early Tuesday morning and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The assault took place about 12:30 a.m. in a home in the 1800 block of Ingleside Terrace NW in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. The suspect fled in a red sweatshirt and jacket, police said.

He will face first-degree burglary and third-degree sexual abuse charges, police said.

The man is described as Hispanic with a stocky build, and he stands about 5-feet-8-inches tall, police said.

Neighbors in the area said the assault has them changing their routines.

"I am home most afternoons with my child and, you know, at naptime I often go upstairs with him and since this news came out, you know, the doors are locked, the windows are locked, even though we're in the house and that's not common for us here," resident Karen Loeschner said.
