Injured Firefighter to Be Released Friday

O'Toole suffered burns to more than half of his body

A Prince George’s County firefighter, severely burned on the job, will be able to leave the hospital as early as this Friday.

Kevin O’Toole suffered second- and third-degree burns to more than half of his body Feb. 24. He was one seven firefighters injured in the house fire in the 6400 block of 57th Street in Riverdale, Md.

The 22-year-old is also the last one to be released from the hospital. The others were treated and released last month.

O’Toole will leave the burn unit at the Washington Hospital Center in the same ladder truck he rode in the night he was injured.

Since the fire, the Prince George’s County Fire Department has promoted O’Toole to sergeant.

Investigators believe the fire was arson, and is connected to another fire around the same time.
