‘I Need Help:' Father of Teen Killed Over a Gucci Belt Pleads for Justice

Police haven't made an arrest in the death of 17-year-old Bryan Alvarado-Esquivel, who was shot at a Bladensburg playground

The father of a 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot in a playground and robbed of his Gucci belt is asking for the public to help track down the killer.

Police released photos on Monday of the distinctive shoes worn by the suspected killer, who walked into a Bladensburg park on June 18 and gunned down Bryan Alvarado-Esquivel.

Alvarado-Esquivel was robbed of his Gucci belt, a silver watch and his necklace.

Police say the killer was wearing bright blue Air Jordan sneakers. They haven't yet made an arrest in the case.

"I would never want this to happen to anyone else," said Cpl. Lamar Robinson, a Prince George's County police officer. "That's why we have to get this individual off the street."

"A life is way more important than a belt and a watch," Robinson said.

Jose Alvarado, the victim's father, made an emotional plea for anyone with information to come forward.

"I want justice for my son," Alvarado said. "I need help for find that guy."

Alvarado-Esquivel, of Northwest D.C., was visiting with friends in a playground on Varnum Street that's popular with high school students. He was sitting near the top of a slide with friends when a man with a gun walked into the park.

The shooter announced he was going to rob someone. Then, he approached Alvarado-Esquivel and shot him at close range.

Police arrived about 2 p.m. and found Alvarado-Esquivel suffering from a wound to the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward to information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
