1 Dead in I-95 Crash in Virginia

Alexandria man dies in three-car wreck

Interstate 95 in northern Virginia re-opened early Saturday morning after a three-vehicle crash in Fairfax County resulted in the death of one person and shut part of the highway down.

Fairfax County Police tell News4 they were notified about the accident in the southbound lanes near the Fairfax County Parkway in Newington around midnight.

Police say a Mazda was traveling south on I-95 and ran off the right side of the highway near the exit ramp for Backlick Road. The car overturned and rolled back onto the southbound lanes, striking a Ford Focus. That crash caused the Ford to also strike a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Mazda, identified as 23-year-old Ryan Cox, of Alexandria, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

The southbound lanes were closed for several hours while police investigated the scene. The highway re-opened at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
