Gun-Wielding Man Shot, Killed by Police

Prince George’s County police said officers fired on a man holding a gun in Capitol Heights, Md., killing the man early Saturday morning.

Police said two officers heard shots fired at Marlboro Pike and Shamrock Avenue around 3:50 a.m. When they arrived, they saw a man grabbing his side and trying to leave the scene.

One officer noticed the man reach for a handgun in his waistband. After the man refused to drop the weapon, the officer, fearing for the safety of his partner and himself, fired his service weapon.

The man was taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he later died from his injuries. He was later identiified as Robert Antonio Jones, 24, of the 2700 block of Lorring Drive in Forestville.

One officer was working robbery suppression along Marlboro Pike and the other was on traffic patrol when they heard the shots.
