Groups Backing Iranian Opposition Rally in D.C.

Supporters of the opposition movement in Iran are planned to rally in Washington Saturday.

Organizers said they would gather at the Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Wisconsin Avenue in northwest D.C. and then march to Freedom Plaza.

Activists said they are showing solidarity with Iranians who call for democracy and human rights. They said speakers will include journalist Roxana Saberi and Joe Stork of Human Rights Watch.

The demonstration comes as Iran's opposition leaders called off a mass protest Saturday in the country on the anniversary of last June's disputed presidential election.
