Freed Va. Prisoner Seeks Exoneration

Thomas Haynesworth spent 27 years in a Virginia prison for a crime he apparently did not commit.

He was freed last week after DNA evidence cleared him. The crimes are now tied to a serial rapist who’s serving a life sentence.

Now Haynesworth wants to be exonerated.

He’s not being greedy. If he’s not fully exonerated, he will remain a registered sex offender and remain on parole.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Haynesworth’s attorneys and prosecutors told the Virginia Court of Appeals that he is innocent and deserves to have his name cleared once and for all.

The court is expected to make a decision in a few weeks.

Maybe his patience will pay off again.
