Foreclosure Auction of $23.1 Million Mansion Cancelled

What could have been the region's richest foreclosure auction in history - selling off a $23.1 million McLean mansion - has been cancelled.

Earlier this week, the auction listing on the Tranzon Fox web site had said the house would be sold to the highest bidder on Thursday.

However, Wednesday, the site simply read "auction cancelled."

Tranzon Fox could not be reached Wednesday afternoon for comment.

The home had been built by entrepreneur Rodney P. Hunt. It had been valued at $23.1 million and ranked number three on Washingtonian magazine's list of the area's most expensive homes.

The 20,0000-square-foot home has 10 fireplaces, an elevator, a detached guest house, staff quarters, and a basketball court. There are separate gyms for the men and women, a two-lane bowling alley, a movie theater and 15-car underground garage.

Hunt was the co-founder of RS Information Systems, which he sold in 2007. The Washington Post has reported that Bank of America claimed Hunt is in default on a $9.4 million loan on the house - one among many claims against Hunt reported by the paper.
