Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm House Fire in NW DC

Eight people are without a home after flames from an adjacent row house spread to their home.

The 2-alarm fire started at a vacant home in the 4300 block of Iowa Avenue NW at early Monday morning.

Fire officials say the flames then spread to an adjacent home.

"My wife said, 'Hey, something's burning.' We got up and checked, and when I turned on the light, all the smoke was coming out of the cracks of the house," said Caesar Morales who lives in the affected home.

Morales and seven others got out of the home safely.

The flames caused the home where the fire originated to partially collapsed. One firefighter suffered minor burns while battling the fire.

Firefighters have not been able to enter the home where the fire started because of the building's instability.
