An accident on the inner loop of the D.C. Beltway killed one person and injured two others, police said.
Maryland State Police said the crash occurred near Exit 19 and involved two vehicles. The driver of one of the vehicles was briefly trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency crews were able to get the driver out, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two occupants in the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said they are expected to be OK.
Police have not identified the victims or released a cause for the crash. The ramp from the inner loop to westbound Route 50 is currently closed.
