Fatal Accident Shuts Down Part of I-95 Southbound

A portion of  I-95 southbound was closed near Dumfries, Va., following a fatal accident and fire.

Virginia State Police responded to the two-vehicle crash near exit 152 around 11:15 a.m. Friday. One of the drivers, 37-year-old Matthew Wilkerson of Fredericksburg, Va., died at the scene. The male driver and female passenger of the second vehicle were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say all of the victims are adults.

One southbound lane reopened at 12:15 p.m., according to 511 Virginia. The remaining lanes reopened by 3:40 p.m., police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
