Express Train to Union Station Proves Popular

VRE suspected that its new express train from Fredericksburg, Va., to Union Station would be popular, but officials didn't expect the overflow crowd that turned out for the maiden trip on Monday.

The three-car train was full by the second stop, and about 100 people had to stand.

VRE has added an extra car to the train, increasing capacity by about 140 seats. A spokesman for the rail system said more cars can be added if needed.

The train departs Fredericksburg shortly after 5 a.m. and makes six stops before arriving at Union Station. The express train shaves off about 13 minutes from the previous route.
