Driver, Aide Injured in School Bus Fire

WASHINGTON -- A school bus driver and a driver's aide suffered minor injuries when the bus caught fire in northeast Washington, fire officials said.

No children were on the bus.

The bus was on its way back to the company lot when it caught fire at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday near 20th and Evarts streets, D.C. Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer said. The women were exposed to smoke and heat and taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The bus sustained significant damage, Piringer said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
