Charles County police arrested the suspect in a recent purse-snatching incident in Waldorf, Md., on Thursday.
Larry Jamal Fortune, a resident of Fairfax, Va., was charged with robbery, assault, theft, endangering a child and multiple traffic violations.
Police say Fortune, 22, approached an 80-year-old woman and stole her purse as she was leaving a grocery store on Monday.
He then fled to his vehicle but was quickly located by authorites on Crain Highway, police said.
A brief pursuit followed, but was quickly terminated after the pursuing police officer noticed a toddler standing up in the back seat of the suspect's vehicle. They say the child was Fortune's 2-year-old son.
Authorities located Fortune's vehicle in D.C. The child was found in the custody of a relative.
