D.C. Shooting Leaves One Dead

Authorities say incident occurred during early-morning hours Wednesday

District of Columbia police said an officer shot and killed a 19-year-old man Wednesday in an exchange of gunfire.

Police say the officer was called to the 800 block of 51st Street in Southeast for a report of a drug activity at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said the officer approached a group of people standing in the area, and that one man brandished a handgun and fired at officers.

Police said the officers fired back, striking the man.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified the man as Kevin Bolden.

Authorities said the officers who were involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
