WASHINGTON -- District of Columbia police said 800 officers and civilian employees lost 1,100 pounds in a weight-loss challenge this summer, The Washington Post reported.

Police said almost 200 teams took part in the challenge, which began in June and ended this month.

An awards ceremony is scheduled next month and a second eight-week challenge is planned this fall.
