DC Parking Restrictions Resume, Lifted for New Year's Day

The New Year's holiday means drivers will have an easier time parking on the streets of the nation's capital.

District of Columbia officials say parking meters, residential parking and rush-hour lane restrictions won't be enforcedon Jan. 1. That's the usual routine for holidays, when vehicle traffic in the city is light.

Drivers will be able to park at meters without paying or stay in residential zones all day without a permit. There will be no towing of abandoned vehicles on the two holidays.

Parking restrictions also won't be enforced along the city's new streetcar line in the H Street, Northeast, corridor.

Officials said parking restrictions weren't in effect on Christmas Day but have resumed on Dec. 26.
