D.C. Man Gets 36 Years in Deadly Shooting Witnessed by 8-Year-Old Girl

A District of Columbia man has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for a deadly triple-shooting that was witnessed by an 8-year-old girl.

Jimmie Fleming, 36, was sentenced Monday in D.C. Superior Court. Fleming pleaded guilty in September to two counts of voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Prosecutors say Fleming and the girl approached the three men on July 13 near North Capitol and T Streets NW, and Fleming asked for a ride. Once they were driving, prosecutors say Fleming pulled a gun and opened fire.

The driver - 20-year-old Derek Price of Montgomery Village, Maryland, and a passenger - 21-year-old Donchell Thomas of District Heights, Maryland - were both shot in the head and died. A front-seat passenger shot several times survived.

The 8-year-old girl was not injured.

According to court documents, the shooting was unprovoked and happened without warning.

Fleming was arrested after the car crashed and he fled to a nearby home.
