D.C. Man Killed Outside Tavern

Girl, 13, also shot in leg in seperate incident

A Washington D.C. man was killed and a 13-year-old girl shot in the leg Saturday night.

Police say bullets flew in two separate incidents in Prince Georges County, first in the parking lot of Frank’s Tavern in the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Capitol Heights.

Police found 57-year-old Standard Dean Sweet outside the tavern suffering a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Prince George's police Cpl. Henry Tippett.

There are no suspects in the case.

Later that night at 11 p.m., a 13-year-old girl was shot in the leg outside the CFE Nightclub in the 7700 block of Marlboro Pike in Forestville.

The girl suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Tippett.

It’s not clear why the child was outside the nightclub, or if she was with a parent or guardian.

Police do not believe she was the intended target of the shooting.
