More Than a Dozen Crashes Slow Traffic on Baltimore-Washington Parkway

More than a dozen crashes slowed traffic along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Tuesday morning, including two that U.S. Park Police say were serious.

The first crash happened in the southbound lanes of the BW Parkway at MD-197 in Laurel, Maryland.

It's not clear what caused the crash, but a picture from the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department showed a black car tangled in the trees along the busy highway.

Fire officials say one person was trapped. That person was taken to the hospital, but their current condition is not known.

All southbound lanes of the BW Parkway were blocked between MD-197 and Powder Mill Road for several hours. The lanes have since reopened, but significant delays have been reported in the area.

Following that crash, Park police say more than a dozen crashes were reported along the BW Parkway. The crashes happened on both the north and southbound sides.

Police say at least one other crash was serious.

No further information has been released.
