It may be summer, but many families have already started back-to-school shopping, according to a new survey.
The National Retail Federation (NRF) announced Thursday its back-to-school trends for 2013.
It found 24 percent of families with children in grades K-12 are already shopping.
The NRF says families with school-aged children will spend an average of about $634 on clothes, shoes, supplies and electronics. That's down almost $54 from last year.
The NRF reports back-to-school and back-to college spending will reach $72.5 billion this year.
