Gas Line Broken at DC Construction Site

WASHINGTON -- Washington Gas and hazmat are at the scene of a natural gas leak in the 500 block of D Street in Northwest.

DC Fire and EMS received the report of the leak at about 2 p.m. They found a high-pressure natural gas line had been broken at a construction site.

Some evacuations were conducted, D.C. Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said. D.C. Fire is taking readings for gas in several buildings in the area.

People should avoid the area around Indiana Avenue and Sixth, Seventh and D streets in Northwest while workers cap the leak.
