At least a dozen bars and restaurants in Adams Morgan raised money Thursday for two D.C. police officers and a Department of Transportation worker who are recovering after a man driving a pickup truck plowed into them in the Northwest neighborhood.
Participating bars included Madam's Organ, Songbyrd, Bossa, Town Tavern, Grand Central, Shenanigans, Roofers Union, Johnny Pistolas, Bourbon, Columbia Station, Black Squirrel and Ventnor Sports Cafe. Many of them had live music, promotions on food and drinks and raffles from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to the event's Facebook page.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the officers and DDOT worker as well as their families.
Police said the two officers and DDOT worker were in the Adams Morgan neighborhood when the pickup truck plowed into them and then hit a dump truck.
One officer and a DDOT worker were released from the hospital on Friday. The other officer's condition is not known at this time.
On Thursday, Adams Morgan business owners and friends of the two officers identified them as Officer Alen Bukvic and Officer Richard Duranne. Bukvic is still in the hospital. The identity of the DDOT worker is still unknown.
The pickup truck driver, 22-year-old Brandon Figures-Mormon, of Disputanta, Virginia, was arrested and has been charged with assault with intent to kill and possession of an unregistered firearm.
