5 Teens Suspected of Vandalizing Historic Virginia Schoolhouse

Five teenagers are to blame for the obscene images and racist messages spray painted on a historic schoolhouse in Ashburn, Virginia, over the weekend, police say.

Loudoun County police said Wednesday that three 16-year-old boys from Sterling, a 17-year-old from Sterling and a 16-year-old from Ashburn have been connected to the vandalism of the Old Ashburn School after detectives interviewed the teens.

The sheriff's office said it is working with the Loudoun Commonwealth's Attorney and the Loudoun County Juvenile Court Service Unit Intake Department to bring charges. The suspects' names cannot be released because they are minors.

Someone discovered the house had been spray painted on Saturday. The one-room building that has been under restoration was covered in swastikas, vulgar images and racist phrases such as "White Power."

The school educated African American children in the nineteenth century.
