Kids Run, Mascot Challenges at the Marine Corps Marathon

Children can join in on the fun during the Marine Corps Marathon Saturday by participating in a one-mile Kids Run event.

Nearly 3,600 children ages 5 to 12 will participate in the event. All participants receive a T-shirt, medal and snacks at the finish line. There will be six different starting times for the Kids Run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m.

NBC4's Jason Pugh will be the emcee for the MCM Kids Run and Storm Team4 meteorologist Amelia Segal will be there as well, in the Storm Team 4X4.

Kids can also enjoy meeting mascots from the area who will be attending the run and participating in mascot challenge races throughout the day. Look out for NBC4's own Peacock, as well as Sammy the Sea Otter from Navy Federal, Lift Off from Sodexo, the GECIO Gecko, J. Slice and the National Watermelon Queens from the National Watermelon Promotion board, Jukebox from Silver Diner, Archie the Eagle from Quantico Eagle Eyes, Power Panther from the USDA and George from George Washington University.

Kids are advised to bring a runners bib, running shoes, dry socks, sunscreen, rain gear and parent identification.
