The National Park Service is soon replacing 273 trees and shrubs hit by disease or just plain wear and tear.

Pruning and treatment of ailing elm trees is also part of the project.

Keeping the landscaping around the Capitol and Washington's beautiful monuments is key to showing them off to their best advantage to tourists from across the counrty and around the world.

This is the first of four projects to bring a fresh new look to the grounds.

The area around the Lincoln Memorial and repairs to the sinking sea wall around the Jefferson Memorial will be tackled in other phases of the four-part project.

The National Mall and Memorial Parks will recieve $56 million altogether, with all of the money set aside from the federal economic stimulus package.
