D.C. Taxicab Commission Approves Rate Hike

New Rates Go Into Effect In 30 days

Be prepared to pay more for a cab ride in the District. The D.C. Taxicab Commission approved a $.66 per mile rate hike. The new rate is set at $2.16 per mile.

The Commission approved the plan Wednesday night.
 
It includes a $15 Snow Emergency charge, and a $25-an-hour wait fee. In addition, passengers will be charged $.50 a piece for each piece of luggage placed into the trunk.  Briefcases, bags of groceries, and purses will not be subject to the luggage fee.
 
All other surcharges will be eliminated.

The rate hike proposal does not include any customer service upgrades, such as providing a credit card readers.
