Not into Memorial Day beach crowds? Hold off for a week before heading to Virginia Beach, and you can catch a post-Memorial Day celebration instead.

The free Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival, June 1-3, features live music, military flyovers and activities.

Musical acts include Miranda Lambert and Steel Pulse. Paul Junior from "American Chopper," plus Redskins players, coaches and cheerleaders will put in appearances for photo ops.

An air show headlined by the Blue Angels will feature an E-2C Hawkeye flyover, a search-and-rescue demo by the Coast Guard and a F22 tactical demo on June 2 and 3. Military displays and demonstrations will also be taking place along the waterfront.

You can catch the concerts at 5th and Oceanfront, and the air shows at 18th and Oceanfront. Other activities include the Ride 2 Recovery bike ride and Navy SCUBA-diving tank.

Virginia Beach is about 210 miles south of downtown D.C.
