District of Columbia officials are announcing the creation of a task force to combat robberies.
Mayor Muriel Bowser, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier and others are expected to announce the creation of the task force Wednesday. A statement from the mayor's office says the task force will include members of the police department, Metro Transit Police Department, the Office of the Attorney General and the United States Attorney's Office.
The statement from the mayor's office says the task force will target offenders by identifying and responding to patterns of a robbery spree. The task force is also expected to focus on developing strong cases to prosecute repeat offenders.
