Campaign Driver for Ex-DC Mayor to Be Sentenced

The former campaign driver for ex-District of Columbia mayor Vincent Gray is set to be sentenced.

Mark Long pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge. He admitted that he was paid to serve as Gray's chauffeur from an illegal slush fund that aided Gray's 2010 mayoral campaign.

But Long later tried to back out of his guilty plea, arguing that he was subject to harsher punishment than the architects of the conspiracy to illegally fund the campaign. A judge rejected that motion and Long will be sentenced on Friday. Federal guidelines suggest a sentence ranging from probation to six months.

Gray denied all wrongdoing in his campaign and was not charged after the lengthy investigation. He is set to return to the District of Columbia Council after winning a Democratic primary last month.
