The Houston Texans announced Wednesday that quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday against the Redskins.
The decision is not necessarily a surprise, but the acquistion of Ryan Mallett from New England earlier this week made things a bit more unclear prior to coach Bill O'Brien's decision. O'Brien happened to be Mallett's offensive coordinator during his rookie season with the Patriots in 2011. Houston is Fitzpatrick's fifth team since he entered the NFL in 2005 as a seventh-round draft pick out of Harvard.
None of that matters, however, to Redskins safety Ryan Clark.
"Man, I don't care if they start Ryan Gosling," he told reporters Wednesday.
Meanwhile, No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney will also play Sunday. He sat out of the Texans' final two preseason games with an undisclosed injury.
As for the Redskins, quarterback Robert Griffin III is prepared to erase the memories of a poor preseason both personally and as a combined first-team offense.
"I do this for my teammates. I do this for my family; for this organization. We don’t have anything to prove to anybody else out there," he told reporters. "We just have to go out there and be the team we know we can be. I guess you can say we have a lot to prove to ourselves in this building, and it’s about all of us going out there and being successful.
