Mike Shanahan: Robert Griffin III Will Begin Full Team Drills Wednesday, Will Not Play In Preseason

Because there is little else happening in Washington-area sports today, we revisit Richmond for an update on Robert Griffin III's status as provided by Mike Shanahan.

Earlier today, Griffin told reporters that he would begin participating in 11-on-11 team drills Tuesday. That, however, will not be the case, according to Shanahan, who said that RGIII will do so Wednesday after rain cancelled this past Saturday's practice.

“He’ll take a couple of reps on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with each team period,” Shananan said. “[Tuesday] will be the same as it’s been [7-on-7 drills] and walkthroughs like we did earlier today.”

As for Griffin's intention to lobby Shanahan for an opportunity to appear in the preseason, the latter does not plan to budge, telling reporters that there is "no possibility" that the former will play before Sept. 9.

“I love it when somebody wants to be out there; that’s a good problem to have as a head coach,” Shanahan said. “But my job is to make sure that we do the best thing for Robert. And that’s what I’m going to try to do.”
