Minor Leaguers Host “Tribute to Bacon”

In one of the more interesting Minor League Baseball promotions we've seen, Kevin Bacon will throw out the ceremonial first pitch tonight for the Richmond Flying Squirrels on "Tribute to Bacon Night."

If you're thinking that there is no way THE Kevin Bacon would throw out the first pitch in a Minor League game in Richmond, Va., well, you'd be right -- he isn't.

The Kevin Bacon appearing at tonight's game is actually a detective with the Chesterfield County Police Department who works with the Chesterfield Crime Solvers program. He was recently elected as the Area Director for the Virginia Crime Stoppers Association.

Famous actor or not, Bacon will still be the man of the evening. In addition to throwing out the first pitch, he will be signing autographs and helping with the on-field promotions.

"Having him here will definitely add some extra sizzle to a night we were already planning to ham up," Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO Todd Parnell hilariously said on the Squirrels' site.

Fans in attendance can enter to win a year's supply of bacon, and all fans will receive coupons for, you guessed it, bacon.

This evening's festivities are presented in part by the Virginia Pork Industry Board.
