Jayson Werth has been a man possessed over the last two months, earning the National League Player of the Month award in July and continuing his blistering streak through most of August.
But when he was on the receiving end of a 57-mph breaking ball from Cubs pitcher Carlos Villanueva Wednesday, he literally looked a man possessed.
Werth simply froze as if he was transfixed by a portal into the abyss sliced open by the trajectory of Villanueva's curveball. Maybe he finally figured out the meaning of life.
Or, you know, he was simply dumbfounded.
