Strong Storms, But No Derecho

Storms capable of lightning, rain, strong winds

Strong storms are moving through the area, but they are nothing like the derecho that wreaked havoc on the region Friday night.

They did prompt Capitol Police to evacuate the Fourth of July rehearsal on the Capitol's west front lawn. Capitol Police later said the rehearsal would resume.

Dominion Power and Pepco reported more power outages in addition to the thousands that remain from Friday's storms.

The storms have potential to produce rain, lightning and wind gusts possibly up to 60 mph.

They are expected to move through the area by about 11 p.m.
