The Virgin Festival will be back for a 4th year this August, but in all likelihood, at a new location.
The festival's promoter, I.M.P., is currently in discussions to move the 2-day event to Merriweather Post Pavilion (I.M.P. also manages that venue), according to the Washington business Journal. I.M.P is also looking at other DC area venues for the popular music event.
For the past 3 years, Virgin Fest has been held at Pimlico in Baltimore and any move would be a big loss for the race track as well as area businesses. It totally makes sense though to move the event to Merriweather, where I.M.P. would avoid the $200,000 price tag to rent Pimlico.
Close to 60,000 people on average attended the weekend event at Pimlico so any move to a smaller venue would likely mean smaller headlining acts. It's doubtful they could come anywhere close to securing bands like the Police, Bob Dylan, or Kanye West.
