Say Cheese! It's FotoWeek DC

Celebrate the magic of photography with FotoWeek DC events

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well this week there’s a thousand pictures. Nov. 15 sets off the beginning of the first annual FotoWeek DC. It’s a get together of the diverse and large photography community in the D.C. metropolitan area. FotoWeek DC will encompass a wide-range of events including:

Soul Cages. The opening reception for Soul Cages at Sixth & I. Soul Cages is a recent series of Joshua Cogan's work featuring portraits. Cogan’s portraits include shots taken in East Africa, Jamaica and right here in D.C. Cogan also covers the Jewish Diaspora. The event is free and will take place on Wednesday Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. An RSVP is required.

Katrina An Unnatural Disaster. The exhibit, Katrina An Unnatural Disaster will be on display throughout the week. The photographs were taken as part of the Open Society Institute’s Katrina Media Fellowship to increase social justice and spark dialogue. This exhibit will showcase at 3333 M Street, NW. The event is free.

Panel Discussion. For those considering a field in photography, Monday’s panel discussion is a must. Entitled, A View from the Inside – How Photography and Art Careers are Changing and What You Need to Know to Succeed, this discussion delves into how to get into the photography and from the perspective of working professionals. Get advice from panelists including representatives from Getty Images, National Geographic Kids magazine and National Public Radio. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is $5 for students and $20 for non-members. It will be held in the National Press Club’s (529 14th St. NW) Holeman Lounge on the 13th floor.
