Skins' New Star Makes News in Court Before on the Field

Haynesworth indicted on traffic charges

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Well, the Washington Redskins' blockbuster free agent has been dogged by a reputation as a bit of a problem child, so maybe it's appropriate that his name makes headlines for what's said in court before it does for what he does the team on the field.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been indicted in Tennessee on two misdemeanor traffic charges -- reckless driving and having expired registration -- after an accident that seriously injured another driver, Williamson County District Attorney Kim Helper said.

Haynesworth, a former Tennessee Titan who signed with the Redskins last month, was released after surrendering Wednesday. Maximum punishment is six months and a $500 fine on the reckless driving charge and 30 days in jail and a $50 fine for the other charge.

The charges come from a Dec. 13 incident in which Haynesworth was trying to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median.
