Redskins Announce Final Roster Cuts, Trim Team Down to 52 Men

The NFL preseason is over (thankfully) and with the regular season set to begin next week, all 32 teams were required to finalize their 53-man roster by Friday evening.

The Washington Redskins did their part, letting go of 22 players Friday, including some notable names. Various reports have accumulated the list below throughout the day, but the 'Skins have officially confirmed that the following players are no longer members of the team:

  1. RB Tim Hightower
  2. WR Anthony Armstrong
  3. WR Terrence Austin
  4. DB Travon Bellamy
  5. FB Dorson Boyce
  6. T Tom Compton
  7. C Eric Cook
  8. QB Jonathan Crompton (who was cut for the second time this week)
  9. RB Tristan Davis
  10. NT Marlon Favorite
  11. C Grant Garner
  12. LB Donnell Holt
  13. NT Delvin Johnson
  14. LB Brian McNally
  15. TE Richard Quinn
  16. T Willie Smith
  17. CB Brandyn Thompson
  18. LB Markus White
  19. DE Doug Worthington
  20. CB David Jones
  21. LB Bryan Kehl
  22. DL Darrion Scott

Safety Tanard Jackson has been suspended by the NFL indefinitely for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Of course, the 'Skins also parted ways with tight end Chris Cooley earlier this week. The Redskins are moving forward with 52 players, giving them room to add someone else in the future.

Washington opens its season September 9 against the New Orleans Saints.
